Why are Come, Stay and Walking Nicely on Leash Important?

Imagine ... The door bell rings and you and your dog rush to see who's there. As you open the door your dog dashes out through the opening, freely bounds across your yard and runs into the street. Your heart jumps into your throat as you scream your dog's name. But merrily, without a care in the world, your dog continues running down the street. Your biggest hope is your dog will not meet any cars while running free as you step out the door to chase and try to catch your dog…

Imagine... It a beautiful wintry day; there a skiff of snow on the ground and the sun is shining brightly. You decide it's a lovely day to take your dog for walk. You pick up his leash - his eyes are gleaming; his legs are dancing. He can't wait for you to snap on the leash. On goes the leash, the door is opened and out your dog dashes dragging you along behind. Look out for that ice on the steps! You regain your balance and start down the street. Your dog strains against the leash pulling with all his might - he must think he's in the Iditarod! Good thing he only weighs 15 pounds! But, look - there's your neighbor and his dog. They must be in the Iditarod too. Look at that 100 pound dog pull! You walk only a short distance before you tire of being dragged along and turn around to head home. Wait! your dog says, we can't be finished yet!

Come, stay, and walk nicely on a leash are the three major skills we can teach our dogs which helps them become the lovable companions we know they can be. The dog that will spin on a dime and race back to you when called can be one lucky and safe dog. A dog that will stay when told to can remain safe in uncertain situations and a dog that doesn't pull when on the leash but walks nicely, well, his walks can be longer since now you both are enjoying them!

Most owners think teaching these skills is hard and wonder why. After all, our dog loves us, doesn't he? Why would he rather run away than come to us? Why won't he stay put when told? Why is pulling on the leash so rewarding to the dog?

If these are some of your concerns and questions, and if you would like to have answers and learn fun ways to teach your dog these skills, this is the class for you - STAY (no matter what), COME (without question), WALK NICELY   held this session on Saturdays at 3 pm. We promise results and a rewarding, fun time for both you and your dog. Come join us!
