the Fieldwood Family

HI! My name is Christine Porter and I feel so fortunate to be a part of the Fieldwood family. I just recently moved to PA from Massachusetts and I have been involved in the sport of dog agility since 2000. I actually starting training and competing in obedience and came across agility much by accident. I had no intention of competing in any sport but only started dog activities with my flatcoated retriever to help him develop confidence as he was a rescue with certain insecurities. After one beginner class of agility, I was hooked! My flatcoat, Derby, went on to earn over 30 titles in obedience, agility and also flyball, including several champion titles and three agility high in trials. I have my certification in agility instruction from Dogwood Training Center in Ohio and have also taken classes at Mt. Ida College in Canine Behavior and Training. I began teaching agility in 2006, and enjoy instructing all types of dogs, from purebreds to rescues, at all levels. In the past I have competed with Australian Shepherds, Mini Aussies, a Norwegian Elkhound, a mixed breed, and my flatcoat. |

I am a HUGE advocate of CPE agility (Canine Performance Events), where their motto is to HAVE FUN! I am currently undergoing the application process to become a CPE agility judge and hope to expand CPE to the central PA area. While not playing agility I work full time as a veterinary receptionist and also do some work with Mini Aussie Rescue. I also teach preschool music classes through a business I started in 1999 called YoungSong. And, of course, I spend a lot of time with my own dogs: They are Jerzy and Bindi, two mini aussies adopted from Mini Aussie Rescue; Vinnie, a chihuahua beagle mix rescued from the streets of Massachusetts when he was 13 years old, and my flatcoat Derby, rescued from a shelter in Massachusetts. My furkid family gives new meaning to the phrase "one man's trash is another man's treasure" as they are truly my treasure and I am blessed to have each one of them! |
