Introduction to Tracking
Coming to FDTC Saturdays, 9:00 a.m., March-April 2012
Do you love being outdoors with your dog? Do you enjoy trying to
read your dog's mind and body language? Would you like to develop
a great team-partnership with your dog? Tracking might be for you.
All
dogs can use their noses to find things and follow tracks/paths.
"Tracking" is a sport puts that canine nose to work! AKC
tracking, having your dog follow the path a person walked and finding
various things that person dropped, is a great activity for dogs
and people of all ages.
This
class will introduce you and your dog to AKC tracking and help you
earn a "TD", AKC's first tracking title. All you need
is a healthy dog of any age, a long line (leash about 30' long),
a tracking harness (any non-restrictive harness will do), some old
gloves/toys to use as "articles", and a bag of really
tasty treats! Oh...and you, yourself, need mucky boots, dirty clothes,
outdoor gear! (no fancy fashions here!)
On the first day of class you only need a hungry dog, one exciting
"article" (a tennis ball, a toy, whatever your dog adores)
and LOTS of little treats (hot dogs, cheese pieces). You do not
need a long line or harness for the first week of class, just a
buckle collar and a 6' leash. Rain or shine, trackers track so wear
appropriate outdoor gear and be prepared for fun!
